OpenVibe.Food answers "what should we eat?" for a household, served at openvibe.food on port 4970 (service id food).

What it does

  • Food near you (/near): food banks, soup kitchens, community fridges, community pantry boxes and budget grocery stores around a place, from OpenStreetMap, with distance, address and opening hours.
  • Meal planner (/plan): a deterministic shop for one person, a couple or a group over one to fourteen days, one item from each of the six USDA MyPlate groups, with a shopping list, the cheapest store per line and a budget as a hard cap. A saved plan can be shared with a household, which ticks off one shopping list together.
  • Food database (/foods): 42 items with nutrition and typical price bands.
  • Pantry (/pantry): what is in the cupboard and which basic recipes it makes. Items go in by hand, by barcode (Open Food Facts names the product) or from a photo of a shelf or a receipt read by OpenVibe.AI, always confirmed by the person.
  • Recipe ideas (/recipes) from the pantry, and a recipe library (/recipes/library) written by AI from the food list, labelled as such and indexed only once staff have checked a recipe.
  • Delivery, compared (/delivery): one search opens DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, Seamless, Caviar and Instacart in new tabs, and meal kits and prepared meals (HelloFresh, Home Chef, EveryPlate, Factor and others) are listed by tier with their plans pages and an OpenVibe.Watch link for price changes.

Everything is server-rendered and works without JavaScript.

What it does not do

Food fetches no delivery app's or meal kit's prices itself: their terms forbid automated collection, so it opens their own searches and pages for the person. Cost bands are typical carried-over values, not live figures.

How it fits the network

It uses OpenVibe.Network for sign-in, OpenVibe.Events for the account topics, OpenVibe.AI for recipe ideas and pantry photos, OpenVibe.Search for checked recipes and OpenVibe.Host for deploy. A weekly budget-recipes desk on OpenVibe.Blog reads its library.
